Our Story

Hi! I’m Arlyta, the heart and soul behind My Little Elephant (MLE) , a small business that lovingly brings handmade rattan toys and decor to the world of little ones. MLE is a one-woman show, with occasional help from my husband and our two daughters.

MLE started as a dream, one that kept nagging, somewhere between the chaos of motherhood and the hustle and bustle of an office job. As a mother of two, I know how quickly your house fills up with brightly colored plastic toys that sometimes lose their charm (or parts) too quickly. I wanted something different: timeless, sustainable and natural. So I took the plunge and made that dream come true.

Why rattan?

Rattan means more to me than just a beautiful material. I was born and raised in Indonesia until I was fourteen, and now live in the Netherlands. With rattan I stay connected to my roots and at the same time I can support the talented craftsmen in Indonesia. Every item in our collection is handmade with love and respect for tradition and nature.

Rattan is also durable and strong, unlike plastic that breaks easily and creates a mess. Our rattan items are long lasting and fit nicely into any interior.
